SOOTY FANS!

Harry Corbett started it all in 1948, when he bought a little teddy bear hand puppet to entertain his children whilst they were in Blackpool on holiday! For some reason he was drawn to the little yellow puppet and couldn't leave him on the shelf. He coloured his ears black and called him SOOTY. The rest is history.

Harry enjoyed many television appearances, theatre tours, his very own SOOTY television show and he was awarded an OBE for charitable services in 1976. After Harry retired, SOOTY was in "good hands" with Harry's son, Matthew Corbett, who was SOOTY's partner in custard pies, water pistols and mischievous magic from 1976 up until 1998. Matthew retired in 1998 and Richard Cadell bought the business, Cadell does a great job to this day, with much success both touring  theatres and on television.

When I was a kid, it was Matthew Corbett on the TV with SOOTY, Sweep, Soo & Little Cousin Scampi, too! (Not to forget Butch the Bulldog!) Along with Rupert the Bear, it was my favourite children's television program! I'm so proud and pleased to be releasing this beautiful poster print to honour Matthew Corbett and his career. Matthew is now 72 and lives happily with his wife out of the limelight and out of showbusiness.
